Week 7 : Memorial Day

2.Summany for what i listened to :

The Wounded Platoon.

The video tell the story about lives of soldiers in platoon in Iraq after war. Specially, about soldiers in third platoon, in all, 15 out of 42 soldiers from third platoon left the army after a single Iraq tour, 4 were kicked out for failing drug tests, one was sent to prison for driving while drunk and fleeing the scene of an accident, 5 were medically discharged, 5 left the army because their service had ended. Lives of soldiers after war are not easy like what we think, they might face with depressing, anxiety, paranoia. Things that they experienced in war follow them, and they start using drug, alcohol, or smoking marijuana. They called all these things are psychological problems, PTSD. However, soldiers have psychological problems will be served by military medicine, not of them can get over their problems, so some would lose control and do something crazy or even criminal  such as killing. Nevertheless, some soldiers in third platoon who didn’t have psychological problems have had better lives now. These soldiers now are nursing student, an engineer, weapon tester. 

3. I listened this video for 1 hour and 30 minutes. 

4. My response : 

_ Actually, at first, i thought that this video talk about a memorial day, so i chose it. However, when i started watching it, i seemed to be swept into soldiers stories. After saw this video, i feel that soldiers in platoon are very brave. They are brave because i couldn't care about the death and use their lives to protect people and prevent bomb assaults. Moreover, they are really so poor because experiences in war will follow them through their lives, and this is really a very expensive cost. In short, honestly, even though they are not soldiers from my country, i feel admire them a lot. Hope you guys have good lives, soldiers in third platoon ('_').

2. murder (verd) : to kill someone deliberately and illegally.

Hi my classmates,

First, my name is Ngoc Nguyen, but you can call me Sammy. I'm very glad to study with you  guys this quarter :)

My real name has a special meaning. Ngoc means gem, and i'm a gem that is very precious to my parent. About my nickname, nothing is particular, i took it just because it's easy to call.

I'm from Vietnam, and I was born in Ho Chi Minh City. I also grew up in Ho Chi Minh City, and my family is living there. There are six people in my family included me, i have one sister and two brothers, and i'm the youngest one. My father passed over 3 years ago, and my mom is now 49 year old.

My mom has a small hotel, but my siblings don't like to manage it. Therefore, my plan is that i will study business, and after i graduate university in the US, i'm going to go back to my country and manage my mom's hotel. My dream is that i will manage and extend it bigger.

Beside the plan about business, i'm very interested in hair dresser. I'm going to study about hair dresser after i finish business, and i will be able to have an hair salon beside managing my mom's hotel.

week 3 : A Father and His Daughter : " Always my bubby"

2. Introduction and Summary of the story.
    _ This story is about Steven Wells and his daughter, Jenifer. When Steven was a little boy, his father didn't be close to him and didn't play with him, so he told himself that he will be a good father. Therefore, when Jenifer was born, he did as well as he can. He spends a lot of time to play with little Jen. However, when Jenifer was 14 years old, Steven and Jenifer's mother got divorce. As a 14 years old girl, Jenifer didn't get upset or sad, she even comfort Stev. Ultimately, now, Steven and Jenifer have living together, and they love each other more than themselves.

3. I listened for over 18 minutes.


4. I chose this video because I love stories about fathers and daughters. Indeed, this story is very sweet. Looking at their picture, happiness is obviously on Steven and Jenifer.

5. Vocabulay.

Week 2 : Jefferson writes Declaration of Independence.

2. Introduction and Summarize the video.
    _ Jefferson is known as the person wrote the first draft of Declaration of Independence of the United State. When the US got freedom back from  the British, Congress members nominated comedians that are John Adams and Benjimen Franklyn to draft the formal outline document their ideals for the Declaration. Adams found Jefferson's draff which Jefferson wrote early. However, the draft was like a fully done original, and four comedians argued to change it. Even though the document was changed four times, in the second of July 1770, Congress signed the Declaration of Independence, and in the fourth of July, they approved the Declaration of Independence.

3. I listened thi video for 50 minutes.

4. I chose this video just because it was kind of easy to understand its content for me. Moreover, honestly, information from the video don't affect me. However, the Declaration of Independence in July 4th 1770 is big change and formidable effect to the Us. It started the freedom for a country, it opened the new life for America.

5. Vocabulary :
    1.  moral (adj) : relating to the principles of what is right and wrong behaviour, and with the difference between good and evil. 
    2. radical (adj) :  radical ideas are very new and different, and are against what most people think or believe. 
   3. certainty (noun) : the state of being completely certain.
